The way we receive healthcare is shaped by technology and the recent advances in engineering have been the major game changer for the orthopaedic implant market. Although smart implants have been a hot topic of discussion for the last decade, we are still far from fighting against prosthetic joint infection without major intervention and revision surgery. This is due to antimicrobial resistance (AMR), a major concern worldwide, on which the European Council has proposed a comprehensive EU Action Plan.
The project is going to generate the basis for a product that has the potential to revolutionize the implant industry. With the involvement of public and private sector; knowledge transfer, training and research form the foundations of this project. It will initiate innovation in the area of electromagnetics, communications, sensing, energy harvesting and AMR.
